They say that the year after someone dies is the year of firsts. Today is dad's birthday. Happy Birthday dad. Today you would have been 65.
Ok, so a shelf isn't exactly stop-the-presses newsworthy, but (as many homeowners can attest to) sometimes a project that takes all of 20 minutes to do can totally improve your day. This is one of those. I spent less than $20 on shelf parts at Ikea, and a few minutes with the stud finder and the level, and now I have a shelf that gives me a place to store my iron, detergent, lint, and bleach. AND I have a work surface on top of the washer and drier for sorting and folding clothes. I tell you, it's the little things that make life worth living. Maybe not these specifically, but they're pretty good nonetheless.
Also, this is blog post number 200. Can you believe it? I've kind of been pondering a
365 project. Something tells me that I'm not that good at consistency. Specifically my exercise instructor would tell me that, come to think of it. What do you think? At the very least, it would be an excellent excuse to buy a nice mini camera like
one of these. :^)
Cheers,
Duane
It's the 7th inning stretch... And it's root root for the caaaaal bears... Wait giiiants. Whatever. The pitcher just hit a home run. It's not often you see that.. Go Bears! I mean Giants!

Gatorade slushy. Ok, I was missing some key ingredients to really make anything interesting. It's rather warm here, so I made due with what I had. Ice. Water. Powdered Gatorade for hangover days. I haven't quite gotten the ice to water ratio down yet but... UGGGGH the brain freeze is working just fine!
This is pretty cool. It's not something I would have the patience or drive for, but I can appreciate how a couple of guys could get intrigued, and find the determination to see it through until they have an answer. Very cool!

Here is a picture of the more completed bathroom. All that remains is to paint the cabinet, and put in a towel bar.
From the new
superblender! I picked this bad boy up at Costco today, and the first thing I made (besides some very frothy soapy water) was some tomato soup. Here's the fancy recipe: Two whole uncut roma tomatoes, a whole green onion (the tall skinny green kind with the little bulb & roots at the bottom) some cheddar cheese (pre-shredded - thanks Costco) a boullion cube (yes I DID peel that) and a cup of boiling water (actually, the most work of all.) Put the top on, and let 'er rip for 2-3 minutes. TADA! hot soup! (the blender actually heats and cooks by friction)
What you see here is desert. Some strawberries (stems in) some blackberries, a half a bananna (peeled) and some ice. It's smooth and thick enough to stand a spoon up in. Yum. I forsee a lot of blended items in my near future... The 5 minute soup thing was what sold me on it. I dig the minimal prep work and cleanup.
A couple of other things
1) Today in Costco, I saw a guy that could have easily been dad's brother. He looked so much like him it was scary. I had to control the urge to run up to him and give him a hug.
2) If you're selling furniture on ebay, put postings on Craigslist pointing to your ebay listing. I posted there this afternoon, and my page visits increased by 40% and the number of "watchers" (people who have marked your auction so that they get notification as the auction nears a close) doubled. Pretty cool. I'll post again tomorrow morning, and possibly tomorrow evening just before the auction closes.
3) As I drove from Lafayette to Oakland the temperature dropped from 95 to 75. It was cool watching the exterior temperature gauge drop as I drove West. I love Oakland. 95 degree weather sucks.
I laughed so hard I cried... Twice!
If you don't like cats, then well tough... :^)
